Reid Bowering is a Premier Lacrosse League champion after helping the New York Atlas edge the Denver Outlaws 14-13 in the title game.
Bowering delivered on the big stage, scoring one goal and one assist and picked up two groundballs in the final game.
The Coquitlam, B.C. native demonstrated his lacrosse IQ, setting a slip pick for Jeff Teat, Teat making a behind-the-back pass to Bowering who scored to help the Atlas take an 11-10 lead in the third quarter.
The Atlas finished first in the PLL’s Eastern Conference and had a bye to the semifinals. New York beat the Philadelphia Waterdogs 13-11 in the semis. Bowering had three points (2G, 1A) against Philly en route to the championship.
A handful of Vancouver Warriors came heartbreakingly close to their own championship. The New Westminster Salmonbellies and the Six Nations Chiefs battled through a seven-game Mann Cup series, decided in the final period of Game 7 at Queen’s Park Arena.
The Six Nations Chiefs beat the Salmonbellies 12-7 in the final game, but the Vancouver Warriors who participated had strong performances through the seven-game series.
On the defensive side, Brett Mydske, Jeff Cornwall, and Owen Grant were physical and made their presence felt in every game.
It was a series to remember, the Chiefs taking their third Mann Cup in a row.
