In the Community
September also marked a time of reflection and learning. The Warriors joined Canadians in recognizing National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, standing in solidarity with Indigenous people and honouring survivors, families, and the children who never returned home.
The Warriors are committed to helping create space for dialogue, education, and action to support a more inclusive future. As a team rooted in the Creator’s game, the Warriors recognize lacrosse’s deep Indigenous origins and remain dedicated to ensuring those stories and voices are honoured and amplified across our community.
Young lacrosse players got to work with the pros this month in the Warriors Elite Academy tryouts.
In the Box
In the 2025 NLL Draft, the Warriors built up the right side of the floor, adding depth at transition and defence, with an emphasis on homegrown talent.
Four of the five selections were from the Lower Mainland, and Warriors’ General Manager and Head Coach Curt Malawsky and his staff were happy with how they were able to continue to build on their long-term vision for the club.
The Warriors had two second-round picks (19 & 31), one fourth-round pick (58), one fifth-round pick (72), and one sixth-round pick (86).
Mic Kelly is a right-handed transition selected 19th overall and hails from Towson, Maryland. The former offensive midfield at Denver University played in 60 career games for the Pioneers, finishing with 94 points (64G, 30A), and collected 37 ground balls and had 11 caused turnovers.
Kelly was recently selected for Team USA’s Men’s Sixes National Team camp, hoping to compete in international competition.
Coquitlam B.C.’s Nathan Miller was drafted 31st overall and is a back-to-back Minto Cup champion with the Coquitlam Adanacs. The 6’3”, 190-pound right-hand defenceman is physical and Malawsky says has an identity similar to Warriors’ captain Brett Mydske.
Fourth-round pick Jaden Laberge, from Maple Ridge, B.C., has played for the Delta Islanders (Junior A), the Grizzlies Lacrosse Club (ALL West), and appeared in one game with the Maple Ridge Burrards of the WLA.
Malawsky coached Laberge in minor lacrosse and is another transition player that impacts the game on both ends of the floor.
Left-handed defenceman Ben Gagnon played with the Langley Thunder (Jr. A) and the Shooting Eagles Lacrosse Club (ALL West) during the 2025 season. The Maple Ridge product was the Thunder’s MVP this season.
Similarly to Laberge, Gagnon has been coached by the Warriors bench boss as Malawsky was an Assistant Coach for the Thunder this past season.
Goaltender Boris Maksimenko, 18, played for the New Westminster Salmonbellies (Jr. A) last season. Warriors’ goaltender Christian Del Bianco vouched for Maksimenko, saying the Port Moody, native has an incredible work ethic.
Mann Cup
Six Warriors played in the Mann Cup with the New Westminster Salmonbellies who took on the Six Nations Chiefs at Queen’s Park Arena.
The Salmonbellies took a 2-0 lead on the seven-game series, but the Chiefs stormed back evening the series 2-2. New West won Game 5, but Six Nations took Game 6, forcing a Game 7 and winning 12-7 to raise the Mann Cup for the third year in a row.
Here are some highlights from the Warriors throughout the series:
- Marcus Klarich recorded five goals throughout the series and had three assists.
- Ryan Sheridan scored four times, including two goals in Game 2 and one goal in both Games 3 and 5.
- Ryan Martel added three goals and four assists over the seven games.
On the defensive side, Brett Mydske, Jeff Cornwall, and Owen Grant were physical and made their presence felt in every game.
- Mydske had two helpers – one in Game 5 and one in Game 6.
- Cornwall delivered four goals - an empty netter in Game 1, one goal in Game 2, and two goals in Game 5.

On the Field
Reid Bowering is a two-time PLL champion, winning the Cash App Championship Trophy as the New York Atlas beat the Denver Outlaws 14-13 in the PLL finals.
Bowering delivered on the big stage, scoring one goal and one assist and picked up two groundballs in the final game.
The Coquitlam, B.C. native let his lacrosse IQ shine which resulted in a viral clip and an important goal in the third quarter. Bowering set a slip pick for Jeff Teat, Teat making a behind-the-back pass to Bowering who scored to help the Atlas take an 11-10 lead in the third.
The Atlas finished first in the PLL’s Eastern Conference and had a bye to the semifinals. New York beat the Philadelphia Waterdogs 13-11 in the semis. Bowering had three points (2G, 1A) against Philly en route to the championship.
